Columbia Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics

Welcome to the Columbia Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics! Established in 2023 in partnership with the Columbia Department of Mathematics, the Columbia Undergraduate Mathematics Society, and Columbia Libraries, CJUM was founded to fill an important gap we found in undergraduate mathematics. Plenty of high-quality expository work is produced every year by undergraduates through coursework, REUs, and senior thesis, but there are few opportunities for undergraduates to publish such writing. This writing then vanishes, neither preserved nor shared. The Columbia Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics seeks to rectify this problem by offering undergraduates an opportunity to publish, preserving and sharing their work for the larger math community.

The primary goal of the Columbia Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics is to provide undergraduate readers with high-quality, accessible articles on challenging topics, or novel approaches to teaching more familiar concepts. Articles published are purely expository; we do not accept research papers. Most range from 5 to 15 pages in length, with the primary exceptions being senior theses written by students at Columbia and other universities alike. The journal also accepts and publishes mathematical artwork with clear pedagogical value.
