Apple to Defend its App Store

On Monday, November 26, Apple will go in front of the Supreme Court in the case Pepper v. Apple Inc. It will be defending its business model that all apps on its iOS mobile operating system be sold through its own App Store. In short, Apple will be arguing that its App Store is not running as a monopoly violating antitrust laws.

Amazon Announces New Headquarters

Amazon has selected Northern Virginia and New York for their HQ2.  The company purportedly aims to create jobs for 25,000 people at each of the new locations.  The headquarters in Northern Virginia will be located in Crystal City of Arlington and the location in New York will be in Long Island City of Queens. Other cities may also soon receive major Amazon sites.

Apple Maps Looks to Improve Walking Directions

Apple employees with LiDAR equipment strapped to their backs have been walking around California, collecting street-level information manually.  Over the next month, employees will be collecting street data in Alameda, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Jose, and Cupertino.  Apple plans to extend the improvements across the entire United States over the next year.

Infants Born Addicted to Opioids Sue Pharmaceutical Companies

A class of children are suing 20 different pharmaceutical companies for expanding the opioid market to increase their profits.  These children were born addicted to opioids and suffered from withdrawals and consequent health defects related to their parents’ addiction to opioids and usage prior to birth.

Spraying Chemicals to End Global Warming

Scientists have proposed a technique called stratospheric aerosol injection which would involve spraying large amounts of sulfate particles into the Earth’s lower stratosphere in order to combat global warming. Spraying these chemicals would have the purported effect of dimming the light of the sun and relieving the effects of global warming.
