Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- Author must have produced the manuscript as an undergraduate, and is either currently enrolled at an undergraduate institution or a recent alum (i.e. graduated within two academic years)
- The manuscript must not have been previously published by any other journal or publication
- The manuscript must not currently be under consideration for publication with any other journal or publication
- Include a cover sheet with title, the author’s full, legal name, class year, major(s), university, and university-affiliated email for both creative pieces and research papers
- Manuscript body must not contain personally identifiable information such as author name, university, or class year (note that creative works that make reference to the author’s identity are permissible)
- Research paper manuscripts should be between 1,500-4,000 words or 4,000-8,000 words for notes and articles respectively, double-spaced, use Times New Roman font with 1” margins, and have page numbers
- For research papers, include a 150-300 word abstract within manuscript, ideally after the cover page and before the main body of the manuscript
- Creative works must be under 3000 words
- Creative works written as poetry should be single-spaced; prose should be double-spaced
- Creative works should use Times New Roman font with 1” margins and page numbers
- Bibliography is mandatory for research papers and should be included only when applicable for creative works
- Bibliography must be formatted in accordance with the Author Guidelines
- Upload manuscript as a single Microsoft Word document
Creative Works
Creative works include—but are not limited to—works of poetry, prose, visual art, and original translations. All creative submissions must be under 2,000 words, and, when external sources are referenced, they must be cited as Chicago-style in-text citations (footnotes) with a full Chicago-style bibliography.
Notes
Notes are shorter research papers of 1,500-4,000 words, which should be submitted with Chicago-style in-text citations (footnotes) and a full Chicago-style bibliography.
Articles
Articles are research papers 4,000- 8,000 words, which should be submitted with Chicago-style in-text citations (footnotes) and a full Chicago-style bibliography.
