On November 1, 2024, the Columbia Journal of Gender & Law hosted our annual Symposium, cosponsored with the Children of Incarcerated Caregivers (CIC). The Symposium theme was Children Living with their Mothers in Prison: Advocacy & Alternatives.
This one-day, hybrid event brought together academics, NGOs, and impacted people to examine and explore issues related to parental incarceration, including gaps in research and nursery placement processes that fail to consider children and mothers’ best interests. Our 46.1 issue published in July 2025 collects article versions of our Symposium speakers' presentations.
