From Harlem to الخليل (Al-Khalīl), Palestine: Displacement is the Method of Colonialism

By Halla Anderson, MSSP, MSW and Aidan Parisi

This piece draws connections between the displacement of Black communities in Harlem and the Palestinian people, framing displacement as an intentional method of settler colonialism. Through historical analysis, institutional critique, and abolitionist social work perspectives, the authors examine how racial capitalism, militarization, and state violence are maintained across geographies. The paper calls for solidarity, resistance, and a redefinition of social work as a site of struggle rather than complicity.
