As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The author has read, signed, and submitted the Author Agreement. The author agrees to the terms of this Author Agreement, which will apply to this submission if and when it is published by Current Musicology.
  • The author acknowledges that submissions that do not include a signed Author Agreement will not be considered for publication. The agreement should be submitted on the next page along with all other materials.
  • The submission adheres to all guidelines—technical, bibliographic, stylistic, among others—outlined in the Current Musicology Submissions Guide (2025). Submissions that significantly diverge from these guidelines without authorization will not be considered for publication.
  • The author grants to Current Musicology the authority to publish the article as an Open Access article distributed under the terms of Creative Commons “Attribution, Non-Commercial, No Derivatives” license (CC BY-NC-ND).
  • The author has obtained permission in writing to quote from any material under copyright and has included a copy of the permissions file with the submitted manuscript.
  • The submitted article or book review conforms to the conventions set within The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th ed. (2024), and all citations and bibliographic entries adhere to Current Musicology's modified Notes and Bibliography system, which can be found in the Current Musicology Submissions Guide (2025).
  • The submitted article ranges in length from approximately 5,000 to 8,000 words, including footnotes but excluding Works Cited pages. The submitted book review ranges from 2,000 to 3,500 words.
  • The submission includes an abstract of no more than 250 words which adheres to the RILM Guidelines. Abstracts are not required for book reviews.
  • The submission has not been previously published nor is it under consideration by another journal or publication.
  • The submitted file(s) have been sufficiently anonymized by the author. Please see the Current Musicology Submissions Guide (2025) for further guidance.
  • The submitted file(s) are written in a double spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font in a Microsoft Word (.docx) file format.

Please ensure that submitted manuscripts adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Current Musicology Submissions Guide (2025). Submissions that significantly diverge from these guidelines without authorization will not be considered for publication.
