Steven Moon

Steven Moon is a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at the University of Pittsburgh. Their work examines the revival of Ottoman-era musical healing practices in contemporary Turkish biomedical research by elucidating the historical relationship between science, positivism, and religiosity. They received a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2017 with a thesis on popular music and queer modes of listening to place in Baku, Azerbaijan. Their work can also be found in Etnomüzikoloji Dergisi, the journal of the Association of Ethnomusicology in Turkey.
