Anna B. Gatdula

Abstract

This colloquy, by graduate-student-led collective Project Spectrum, attempts to map out existing discussions around inclusion and equity in music academia, with a specific focus on identifying and analyzing the structures in academia that work against minoritized and historically excluded scholars.

Author Biography

Anna B. Gatdula, University of Chicago, Colloquy Editor, Co-Chair and Co-Founder of Project Spectrum

Anna received a BM in voice performance before pursuing an MA in musicology at Indiana University. A former recipient of the Eileen Southern Fund from the American Musicological Society (AMS) Committee on Cultural Diversity, she currently serves on the AMS Committee on Women and Gender. She is a proud co-founder and current co-chair of Project Spectrum, an interdisciplinary group of music studies graduate students and faculty committed to the work of diversity, equity, and access in the field. Her dissertation has the working title, “American Opera in the Nuclear Age,” and her research covers American cultural history, opera studies at the intersection of voice and performance studies, critical theory, and aesthetics. Outside of the academy, Anna pursues one too many hobbies including poetry writing, photography, baking, and triathlon.
