About the Journal

The Art of the Op-Ed is an open-access journal featuring the work of a group of high school students who participated in Barnard College's 2019 “Summer in the City” Pre-College Program. Students who enrolled in Diana Newby's “Art of the Op-Ed” writing workshop spent one week drafting, pitching, reviewing, copy-editing and typesetting the op-eds that are collected here. This journal has been published in partnership with Columbia University Libraries.

Mission

The Art of the Op-Ed promotes active civic engagement, collaborative production of knowledge, and diversity in publishing by empowering young women writers to share their informed opinions on current issues and events. The journal's content is available to the public free of charge, enabling greater visibility for these writers and encouraging inclusive access to their ideas.
