Mission Statement

Waxing Moon is an annual, peer-reviewed journal hosted by the Digital Scholarship unit in the Columbia University Libraries. Interdisciplinary and transregional in scope, our journal is committed to all aspects of Tibetan and Himalayan Studies.

ཡར་ངོའི་ཟླ་བ་དུས་དེབ་ནི་ཁོ་ལུམ་བྷི་ཡ་སློབ་གྲྭ་ཆེན་མོའི་ཞིབ་འཇུག་ལྟེ་གནས་ཀྱིས་གཙོ་བོ་འགྲེམ་སྤེལ་བྱེད་པའི་དུས་དེབ་ཅིག་ཡིན། དུས་དེབ་འདི་ཡིས་གཙོ་བོར་བོད་རིག་པ་དང་ཧི་མ་ལ་ཡའི་ཞིབ་འཇུག་གི་ཁ་ཕྱོགས་ལ་དམིགས་པའི་་ཞིབ་འཇུག་ཐབས་ལམ་དང་རིག་གཞུང་། རིག་ལམ་སྣ་ཚོགས་ལ་དོ་སྣང་གནང་བ་དང་། ད་དུང་རང་བྱུང་དང་སྤྱི་ཚོགས་ཚན་རིག མིའི་རིགས་རིག་པ། སྒྱུ་རྩལ་བཅས་ཀྱི་ནང་དོན་བཅས་ཀྱང་འདུས་པའོ།། 

Aim

Waxing Moon is aims promote scholarly understanding and engagement with Tibet and Himalayas and to provide a platform for graduate students and early career scholars to publish their research. Our New York based editorial board is comprised of early year faculty and Ph.D students in Tibetan studies at Columbia University. Our international Advisory Board is comprised of leading scholars from around the world who represent a range of disciplines and perspectives on Himalayan studies—from historians, geographers, anthropologists to ethnomusicologists, and specialists in Himalayan languages and literatures.

Scope

While Waxing Moon endeavours to provide publishing opportunities for graduate students and early career scholars, we also welcome contributions from established scholars. We accept submissions in English, Tibetan and Chinese. Waxing Moon publishes original research articles, field reports, book and film reviews, workshop and conference write-ups, alongside literature in translation and photo essays. All original research articles are submitted to a rigorous peer review process.

Authors retain their copyright and agree to license their articles with a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND) 4.0 License. Waxing Moon is a no-fee journal. Authors are not charged for the publication of their articles.

Review Process

All research articles in this journal undergo rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and double-blind refereeing by at least two anonymous reviewers that often lead to at least two rounds of revisions.
