Fall 2022 Speaker Series: 'Elizabeth's Era,' Panel on Empire and Decolonization (11/9/22)

CJA is excited to announce the second event in its Fall 2022 Speaker series, "Elizabeth's Empire: A Panel Discussion on the British Empire and Decolonization," organized in partnership with the Columbia Journal of History and the Columbia History Association. This discussion will trace the arc of the British Empire and decolonization under the reign of Elizabeth II, with Columbia Professors Susan Pedersen (History) and Isabel Alonso (MESAAS). This discussion will contextualize the many responses—from former British colonies and territories, metropolitan Britain, and the United States—to the recent passing of the Queen and British political developments, raising questions about how the colonial 'era' and the decolonization process is remembered. There will be food, and a moderated discussion followed by open Q&A. The event is open to all, and will be from 7:30-8:30pm on Wednesday (November 9) in Fayerweather 411.
