In high school physics class, they taught that when gravity is missing, everything is weightless.
That if you weren’t holding on, you could just float away,
Which I find funny, I think, because it’s the gravity of decisions that makes them so heavy.
And since I’m stuck on earth, this one pulled me down,
Like I had been thrown overboard with it chained to my ankle
And I was trying to tread water but I couldn’t keep my head above the waves.
And now, I carry that decision swaddled comfortably, pointed shrapnel I keep close to my body
As it grows heavier and harder to contain.
You never knew to hold on, so you floated away,
The weight it bears unknown to you, and growing lighter every day
As you eat your ramen
And sleep in on Sundays.
Soon when you wake up,
Your arms will be empty, and you will be weightless,
and you will be free
While I sit in on the floor of the baby clothing aisle at TJ Maxx
My heart open,
Bleeding.
